I’m Amy Oughton

also a Mommy, Type 1 Diabetic, Co-Author, Top Product Designer, & Mentor.

I’m Amy Oughton, a Principal Product Designer and former CEO with 13+ years of experience leading end-to-end product design across healthcare, nonprofit, fintech, and complex data-driven systems. My background as an award-winning UI/UX designer—and as a founder who built and scaled a design agency—gives me a unique dual perspective: I think like a designer, but I operate like an owner. I understand how design decisions impact revenue, operations, engineering complexity, adoption, retention, and long-term product strategy.

As a type 1 diabetic, I’m deeply committed to humanity-driven technology. I’ve spent my career designing interfaces, data visualizations, and workflows that improve the lives of patients, care teams, and underserved communities. This lived experience fuels my empathy, intuition, and obsession with clarity—qualities that helped position me in the top 3% of UI/UX designers globally on Toptal.

Throughout my career, I’ve partnered with startups, enterprise teams, and mission-driven organizations to simplify complex data, build intuitive SaaS products, and elevate UX maturity. I founded Dream In Color in 2012 to help companies leverage design and data to measure performance, reduce friction, and scale more confidently. As CEO, I led product strategy, design systems, research, cross-functional alignment, and design operations—experience that now strengthens my ability to lead senior-level design initiatives, mentor teams, and drive outcomes at scale.

Recognized as a leader in healthcare and nonprofit design, I specialize in transforming ambiguity into clarity, turning large datasets into meaningful insights, and creating high-impact interfaces that move key metrics. I hold a degree from the Art Institute of Washington and received the Washingtonian Award for my commitment to mentorship. Today, I continue supporting causes that impact the Black community and designing technology that aligns purpose with performance.
